"Processing Dock Permit
Applications since 1988"
Re: Current rules and regulations of the Georgia DNR and USACOE
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is the governing
body over dock and erosion permit applications. These permits
apply to
property owners that want to build on their 50' wide + property that is
east
of I-95. The current rules regarding private, recreational docks
allow for
a walkway that impacts less than 3000' square feet (or 6,000 divided by
two
if you will use decking that will allow the sunlight to flow through
it).
The current private, residential permit application or PGP 83 allows for
a
20'x20' main dock with a ramp, 576 square foot floating dock, boat
hoist,
drive-on boat system and roof.
There are no permit fees associated with the application. You may
download
it online @ my web site www.docksupply.com/permits and go to GaDNR.com/
permits. I offer designing and submitting your permit for a
fee. The
application takes about two months for the Georgia DNR to process.
Once the permit is issued it is good for three years. Contact your
county's building
and inspections department to see if it is necessary for a county
permit.
An excellent way to review your property and its water access is through
Google.earth. You may scale an approximate distance for the dock.
This
number times $130 per running foot gives you an idea on the walkway
cost.

Best of luck on your venture!
